About the travelling

Travelling starts long before you leave your home and go somewhere. First your soul says goodbye to the present and you start to learn new laws, the laws of travelling with no certain plan, but only hope and pray. You should have a believe in yourself, and it helps you a lot especially when you have to wait for hours in a cold, dirty miserable place with nowhere to go. If you want to survive you must learn to wait... but suddenly everything is changing, and you find yourself driving in a car through deep forests to the most picturesque places of your dream. From this very moment you become a prisoner of travelling and it leads you wherever it wants to.

Days change one another, and you continue your travel to the high mountains and hills, through dark forests with wild beasts until you find a place for camping. You put a tent, light a campfire to protect yourself from the bears and fall asleep listening to the lulling voice ocean below and to someone's carefull steps on the grass.

You awake in the early morning and meet the red ball of the sunrise which appears on the East. It suddenly reminds you of the West and your hometown, but just for a minute, because you send your memories back and meet the new day. You live in a wild world and nature becomes your only guide. You catch salmon fish in a cold mountain river, get crabs from under the stones and watch the snake couple lying on a forest pass. Whatever you do, you always hear the voice of the ocean, the sound of the wind and rustle of the grass. You become the unseparable part of nature, it's eyes and ears. But then storm comes, and big raindrops hit against your tent. You can't go anywhere. You are helpless to do something and can only hope for the better. You feel cold and hunger and finally give up and leave for home. You pass by the huge waves of the angry ocean and run ahead to the peace and quietness of the city...

Free Format: The Possibilities
Supplementary volume

When working on the first paintings of Free Format series, we discovered an interesting fact, later evolved into an axiom: every perspective landscape image receives the supplementary volume. This occurs always. Our eyes get accustomed to two vertical and two horizontal lines, and when meet something new, our perception immediately jumps inside the picture. It pulls us inside, together with creation the stereo effect.

Artist uses his first impressions and feelings from a certain place of nature. He sees different shapes of huge rocks made by the ocean ahead of him, reminding of strange animals and birds, he feels all the magnificence of nature, its heart beating everywhere, its shapes always changing, and then form of a painting itself just can't be square anymore, it has to transform into something different, like into a palette for paints or into a fish head which is a symbol of Sakhalin.
